Emotional Intelligence: Good Training Never Gets Cut

Although Emotional Intelligence was introduced about a decade ago, training budget cuts forced some companies to cut this type of training. However, some organizations continued Emotional Intelligence training despite the downturn. Recently, the Cincinnati Enquirer ran an article about how Emotional Intelligence has help Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati survive and grow during this period. The reason is simple - Emotional Intelligence has a significant payback to the company and helps individuals to become the person they want to be.

We became certified at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland with Hay Associates and Richard Boyatzis who co-authored Primal Leadership with Daniel Goleman. Since then we have presented Emotional Intelligence workshops and helped people and companies change dramatically.

We work with companies and individuals to learn Emotional Intelligence. We offer public workshops, inhouse seminars, or one-on-one coaching. Leaders get 360-feedback using the ESCI (Emotional and Social Competency Instrument). This highly validated instrument designed by Richard Boyatzis and Daniel Goleman, identify competencies of exceptional performers. Participants understand how they compare to leaders world-wide.

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Richard Boyatzis, a professor at Case Weatherhead, and Annie McKee teamed up with Dan Goleman in 2002 to write the best seller Primal Leadership. Since then the EQ concept has exploded world-wide. Richard continues to research Emotional Intelligence and proves bottom line results with many companies. For example, AT&T salespeople sold $250K more than those with lower EI scores. At L'Oreal, sales professionals with high EQ scores sold $91,370 more than their lower scoring peers. Richard also proved that higher scoring consulting partners delivered $1.2 million more profit from their accounts than their peers.

Emotional intelligence is made up of four unique competencies that show how you recognize and understand emotions, how you manage your behavior, and how you use those emotions to manage relationships. A person with the same IQ as another can be vastly more successful because he or she knows how to manage behavior, navigate social complexities, and make personal decisions that achieve results.

The ESCI is an effective tool to determine whether executive coaching can help a leader become more effective. It's also perfect for high potentials and emerging leaders to identify key areas for development.

We can administer the ESCI and interpret the results with the leader and his/her manager to assess key areas for behavior improvement. As a result of this process high priority areas for increased effectiveness are quickly identified. If you truly want to see change at that point, you should consider hiring an executive coach to help the leader through the change process.

Emotional Intelligence Executive Coaching

Our highly trained and certified executive coaches can work with your leaders in private sessions. We often have senior leaders who have busy schedules work with us in executive coaching sessions. We tailor a program that meets their needs. Although we are in Cincinnati, Ohio, we work with clients world-wide either face-to-face or with programs such as Go to Metting or Skype.

Executive Coaching is also effective for individuals with performance issues. Often we use the ESCI to help pinpoint key interpersonal areas to work on during coaching sessions.

We typically work with executives for three to six months, with weekly sessions.
